Deep down in the darkest depths
Of the shimmering, shining sea
The merfolk swim, and with flip of the fin
Go gliding gracefully.
They weave through waves from coral caves
And ride the crimson tide
And to and fro they ebb and flow
With dolphins by their side.
The mermaids love to comb their hair
With pearl and coral combs
While mermen love to frish and frolic
In the frothy foam.
Or play their harps and sing their songs
Out where the big waves break
At supper they sip seaweed tea
And feast on seafoam cakes.
We often hear their lonely songs
Though rarely are they seen
But there they swim through azure blue
Or float on aqua green.
Deep down in the darkest depths
Beneath the waves and swells
A shiny kingdom, silent stands
Where gentle merfolk dwell.
